Melville Saskatchewan is the host community for the SaskEnergy Hockey Day in Saskatchewan. Friday January, 20th kicked things off with a banquet and auctions along with great guest speakers. More than 400 people attended the event in the brand new Horizon Credit Union Centre Convention Centre.

The evening got underway with an amazing meal followed by an even better line up of speakers. Wayne Bokor with Melville Minor Hockey, Walter Streelasky with the City of Melville, Saskatchewan Hockey Associations Al Hubbs, Doug Kelln with SaskEnergy to name a few.

One of the top highlights of the night came from two guest speakers. The first was Melville's own Tim Cheveldae who played with the Detroit Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets, and Boston Bruins. The second was Bryan Trottier, who was raised in Val Marie, Saskatchewan which is located south of Swift Current. Trottier played with the New York Islanders where he won 4 Stanley Cups, and the Pittsburgh Penguins where he won 2 Stanley Cups.

As the night carried on there were both silent and live auction items up for bid. Some of the items included autographed jerseys from WHL teams in Saskatchewan, autographed photos of Bryan Trottier, Goalie sticks autographed from Tim Cheveldae, and much more.

The host committee is excited for the weekend of events that will be taking place all weekend long. The weekend will be featuring many hockey games. Check out the schedule below.
