Re:       Screening Policy

Over the past four months the SHA Board of Directors has addressed the topic of Screening Policy for Volunteers. The topic of screening and criminal record checks were addressed within the March Zone Meeting topics and feedback received from the Minor Hockey Associations in attendance. The SHA Board of Directors have spent considerable time reviewing the Hockey Canada policies along with those in other Provinces (Branches of Hockey Canada).

The SHA Board of Directors have approved the following policy which is implemented immediately and will be contained within the SHA Handbook for the 2015/16 season;

“The SHA recommends that all Minor Hockey Associations include Criminal Record Checks within their Minor Hockey Association Screening Policy for Board of Directors, team Officials and all Instructors working with Minor Hockey Players and Officials.”

It was apparent from the March Zone Meeting feedback that the membership clearly feels Criminal Record Checks should be a part of an Association Screening Policy and the majority of Associations already have made it mandatory as an internal policy.
