2016 Telus Cup West Regional

The Saskatoon Contacts, five-time winners of the Telus Cup West Regional, will host the midget AAA hockey tournament from March 31 to April 3, 2016, at Rod Hamm Memorial Arena.

They’ll be joined by champions of the Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario leagues. The winner advances to the national Telus Cup tournament in Quispamsis, N.B. The West qualifier was last contested in Saskatoon in 1999 when the Regina Pat Canadians used it as a stepping stone to the national title.

The 2016 Telus Cup West Regional will provide $52,000 in legacy projects to local minor hockey:

  • $32,000 to the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association for coach and referee mentorship
  • $10,000 worth of equipment for the Kinsmen Hockey League, which provides hockey opportunities for students from core community schools
  • $10,000 to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League for a scholarship program

Funding for the legacy projects will come from ticket sales and sponsorship. Tournament passes cost $40 per person and provide access to all seven games, including the championship final. Admission for children age five-and-under is free.
