Martin Receives National Award from Hockey Canada
Wednesday, June 5, 2019 – The 2018-19 Hockey Canada Awards were handed out on Friday, May 31 in Ottawa, ON. The annual awards recognize volunteers from across the country for their passion and dedication to the game of hockey. A total of seven (7) award recipients were called on, and among those honourees was Saskatoon’s Wilf Martin.
Martin was recognized with the Order of Merit (West) for his countless roles within minor hockey. Martin’s work included serving as President of the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association from 1998 to 2002, where he focused on developing female hockey. Martin later became a Saskatchewan Hockey Association’ Board of Director (Zone 6) for 6 years. During this time, Martin was a big help at many SaskFirst High-Performance tournaments and camps through the years.
With over 35 years of volunteering in hockey, Wilf Martin has worn many caps. Martin was also involved in both coaching and officiating at the minor hockey level, volunteering with hosting and security at the two (2) World Junior Hockey Championship held in Saskatoon along with the 2013 Memorial Cup.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association thanks Wilf Martin for his tremendous achievement and for the recognition that is very well deserved.
