Saskatchewan’s First Hockey Canada Sports School Set For Fall 2017
Prairie Hockey Academy (PHA) in collaboration with Hockey Canada, Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) and Caronport High School (CHS) are proud to announce their partnership in developing Saskatchewan’s first Hockey Canada Sports School. The partnership will bring a new hockey academy into the Saskatchewan market. Starting in fall of 2017 with two teams; Bantam Prep and Midget Prep and plans to add additional teams within a year. The teams will compete independently, against the best Bantam and Midget hockey players in Western Canada and the United States in showcase tournaments.
“We are excited about the opportunity this has created for our future student-athletes to be a part of a program that not only focuses on developing skill on the ice, but puts a strong emphasis on off-ice character and leadership development. I have always been passionate about using sports to develop leaders and feel that the Hockey Canada Sports School model allows us to integrate hockey development and leadership curriculum into the classroom. We will develop young men and women who become life champions and go on to be leaders in their homes, workplaces and communities.” PHA President Justin Simpkins
Prairie Hockey Academy in collaboration with Hockey Canada, Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) and Caronport High School have together worked very hard to make this opportunity a reality. PHA student-athletes will have the opportunity to achieve excellence in sport while building an educational foundation for an academic career in the future. CHS students, 9 – 12, will be enrolled at Caronport High School.
“I am really enthusiastic about our partnership with Prairie Hockey Academy! Becoming Saskatchewan’s first Hockey Canada Sport School will provide us increased opportunities to positively impact the lives of young athletes as they follow their passions. Our integration of academic, athletic, character and spiritual development will provide a solid platform from where these young men and women will be able to establish champion mindsets.” CHS Athletic Director, Derek Zacharias
“The Saskatchewan Hockey Association is pleased to see the first Hockey Canada Sport School in Saskatchewan be established with the Prairie Hockey Academy working in partnership with Caronport High School. It has been some time since Caronport has hosted a hockey program, previously operating a Midget Residential School Program and the Prairie Hockey Academy provides another hockey option to players. We wish them all the best in this new venture.” SHA General Manager Kelly McClintock
