Team Saskatchewan Female Under-18 Program Heads to Nationals
Friday, November 1st, 2019 – The Female Under-18 program is traveling to Carman, MB on route to Winkler, MB for the National Women’s Under-18 Championship. The first stop will be a pre-competition game on November 3 against Team B.C. Team Saskatchewan will then make the short drive south to begin tournament play in Winkler, MB.
Awaiting Saskatchewan in group “A” is their first test versus Team Alberta on Tuesday, November 5. The following day, Saskatchewan will face Team Atlantic, a group comprised of the four (4) maritime provinces; Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. Closing out the preliminary round for Team Saskatchewan will be a matchup against Team Ontario (Red).
For Saskatchewan, a total of six (6) players are returning from last year’s Canada Winter Games team that placed 6th out of the twelve-team field. Those players are goaltenders; Chantel Weller (Saskatoon) and Arden Kliewer (Saskatoon), along with defensemen; Anna-Liese King (Regina), Ashley Messier (Wilcox), Chace Sperling (Theordore) and Brooklyn Stevely (Regina).

Team staff is comprised of Head Coach, Nolan Horbach along with Assistant Coaches; Colleen Sostorics, Jean Fauchon and Noel Kingwell. Joining them is Equipment Manager; Josh Houseman, Athletic Therapist; Kacey Moffat and the Head Scout Blaine Stork.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL WOMEN’S UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIPS
The National Women’s Under-18 Championship is an annual tournament (except for Canada Winter Games years) and bring together the best under-18 aged player in the country from coast-to-coast. Team represented include; Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario (Red), Ontario (Blue) and Team Atlantic, comprised of players from New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The preliminary round involves two (2) pools of four (4) teams each playing a round-robin format before placement games and medal round.
