Team Saskatchewan Male Program Set to Open WHL Cup

Tuesday, October 22, 2019 – The 2019 WHL Cup opens Wednesday, Oct. 23 from Calgary, AB, at the Markin MacPhail Centre. Kicking off the tournament will be our very own Team Saskatchewan Male program against B.C. Hockey at 3:00 PM (MT – SK). The prairie boys arrived in Calgary late Sunday night in preparation for the tournament. Following a team practice, tour of the Hockey Canada facilities and on-ice testing’ Team Saskatchewan is ready to compete at this year’s tournament.

Since the roster announcement on September 23, Cole Tanchuk (Shellbrook) and Mason Buekert (Saskatoon) suffered injuries and will no longer be available. Defenseman, Eric Johnston (Regina) has been added to the lineup. The WHL Cup features a round-robin tournament between the four (4) western branches in Hockey Alberta, B.C. Hockey, Hockey Manitoba and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association. Following the preliminary round, a semi-final and medal round game will be played on the Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 respectively.
