Two Saskatchewan Officials Heading to Worlds
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association’s Officiating Development Program is excited to announce that two (2) Saskatchewan officials have been selected to work the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championships.
Cianna Lieffers of Saskatoon and Alex Clarke of Weyburn will officiate the international tournament which takes place in Halifax from May 6 to 16, 2021.
Lieffers last officiated November 26 in the Prairie Junior Hockey League while Clarke’s last game was November 22 in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.
Both officials have been staying active on their skates during the four-month stretch without games. Lieffers and Clarke have been working as SHA on-ice instructors for the Officiating Development Program and have been training as much as possible knowing their names may possibly be selected for this IIHF event.
Lieffers was selected as one of four Canadian women that will make up the 12-official referee team while Clarke was selected as one of three Canadians of the 10 linespersons selected.
Both Saskatchewan officials have worked several international competitions, and this is another great opportunity to be recognized and consider for the Olympics coming up in Beijing, China in February next year.
It is with great pride the Saskatchewan Hockey Association’s Officiating Development Program congratulates Lieffers and Clarke on their selections.
