Re:         Male Midget Hockey Proposal (2020/2021)

The SHA Minor Female Development Committee is outlining the following proposal related to Male Midget Hockey Structure in the Province for feedback at the upcoming SHA Zone Meetings to be held the end of March.

Feedback from Zone Meetings will be submitted to the SHA Minor Female Development Committee with further recommendations taken to the SHA Board of Directors for their Meeting in April.

The application process for the final recommendations will commence following the April SHA Board of Directors Meeting with an application deadline date of October 1, 2019.

The following is an outline of the proposal;


Proposal

Midget AAA

  • Changes to take place for the 2020/21 season
  • All current teams are removed from the SMAAAHL
  • Like what took place in the Fall of 2018 for Female Midget AAA, any Minor Hockey Association can apply to the SHA to host a Midget AAA team by October 1, 2019
  • The Committee will review applications and submit a recommendation to the SHA Board of Directors for up to a maximum of twelve teams             
  • Male Midget AAA application criteria;
    • MHA must have an established Male Minor Program
    • MHA must demonstrate they have local Coaching Resources
    • MHA must provide billeting options for males including a billeting coordinator which must be named in the proposal
    • MHA must provide a named educational Consultant along with including a written working agreement with a local high school
    • MHA must also be able to sustain a Midget AA program for the availability of affiliates
    • Must be able to sustain a team of a minimum of 18 skaters and 2 goaltenders
    • Players will be able to be drawn from the entire Province
    • Players of Bantam age will not be eligible

Midget AA

  • Changes to take place for the 2020/21 season
  • Like what took place in the Fall of 2018 for Female Midget AAA, any Minor Hockey Association can apply to the SHA to host a Midget AA team by October 1, 2019
  • The Committee will review applications and submit a recommendation to the SHA Board of Directors for a range of fifteen to twenty teams
    • Note: The number of teams is dependent upon membership feedback on the creation of a Provincial, 15-year-old league
  • MHA must demonstrate they have enough local Coaching Resources
  • Must be able to sustain a team of a minimum of 17 skaters and 2 goaltenders
  • Players will have to first try out first for the nearest AA team of their residence except for Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw which are closed.
  • Players of Bantam age will not be eligible

Midget 15-Year-Old Provincial League

  • Potential New League to take place for the 2020-21 season. Decision will be based upon feedback at March 2019 Zone Meetings
  • Like what took place in the Fall of 2018 for Female Midget AAA, any Minor Hockey Association can apply to the SHA to host a Midget 15-Year-Old team by October 1, 2019
  • The Committee will review applications and submit a recommendation to the SHA Board of Directors for a range of six to eight teams
  • Like the Female and Male Midget AAA process the following also must be included in the application
    • MHA must have an established Male Minor Program
    • MHA must demonstrate they have enough local Coaching Resources
    • MHA must provide billeting options for males including a billeting coordinator which must be named in the proposal
    • MHA must provide a named educational Consultant along with a including a written working agreement with a local high school
    • Must be able to sustain a team of a minimum of 17 skaters and 2 goaltenders
    • Players will have to first try out first for the nearest Midget 15 team of their residence except for Regina and Saskatoon which are closed.
    • Players of Bantam age will not be eligible
