Saskatchewan Hockey Community Mourns the Loss of Elgar Petersen
Monday, November 5, 2018 - The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) offers its condolences to the family and friends of Elgar Petersen. Petersen passed away at the age of 82, on the evening of Saturday, November 3rd, 2018.
Petersen’s devotion to hockey and the community of Humboldt was tremendous. He began volunteering with the Humboldt Minor Hockey Association in 1962. When the Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ team was formed in 1970, Petersen became the Team Trainer and Equipment Manager. His commitment to volunteering in the community did not go unnoticed, in 2000 the City of Humboldt renamed their ice rink the Elgar Petersen Arena. In 2015, Petersen was inducted into the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in the Grassroots category.
Petersen was born in Annaheim, a village just northeast of Humboldt, in 1936.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the Petersen family during this most difficult time.
