2016/17 Official Bursary Winners
Each season the Saskatchewan Hockey Association’s Referee’s Division promotes officials registered in the province and attending post secondary institutions to apply for one of three bursaries.
The winners this season were: Joel Beresh of Saskatoon, Rudy Pedersen of Moose Jaw and Lindsay Wells of Glaslyn. Each winner received a cheque for $1,000.00 to be used towards their educational funding.
Beresh, 23, was the winner of the Northern Official Bursary as he is working towards his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Beresh worked as high as junior B this season as a referee and worked in the WHL as a linesman this season.
Pedersen, 18, was the winner of the Southern Official Bursary. He was in his first year at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and majored in welding. Pedersen moved to Saskatchewan this season and worked bantam hockey in Moose Jaw.
The winner of the Saskatchewan Officiating Development Model Bursary was 21-year-old Wells. Wells attends the University of Saskatchewan with plans to attain her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree. Wells reffed games in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League this season and worked as a linesman at the Women’s CIS level and in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.
The SHA’s Referee’s Division encourages everyone attending post-secondary institutions during the 2017-18 to apply for the bursaries next season and would like to congratulate these three winners for the 2016-17 season.
