Blair and Funke Participating in Hockey Canada Officials Camp
Based on their work this past season at national events as well as their potential as officials moving forward, Krista Funke and Alex Blair have been invited to take part in the new Hockey Canada official camp.
The female official camp will be in conjunction with the National Women’s Under 18 Player Selection Camp in Calgary August 10 -13. The officiating side of things will run similar to the male OPOE Program, which includes classroom sessions, off-ice sessions, ice session and games with the goal to work with the selected group of officials, explains Todd Anderson, Senior Manager, Officiating for Hockey Canada.
The idea was to invite approximately eight female officials from across the country and fortunately Saskatchewan earned two of those spots.
Blair, who is based out of Weyburn, was a linesman at the National Women’s U18 Championship in Regina and worked the gold medal game. She also went to Morden, Man. as a referee for the Esso Cup.
Funke, a former goalie and official in Regina, worked the Esso Cup as well this past season and was selected to work the bronze medal game at that National Championship Tournament in Manitoba.
Both Funke and Blair plan to get on the ice prior to the camp in August, as they have committed to officiate some of the Female SaskFirst Summer Camp Games in Wilcox at the end of July so they are ready to impress in Calgary.
