Busy November for Some SHA Officials

Several SHA officials will have a busy November after selections for several Hockey Canada events were announced recently.

Beginning on October 28, 2 officials will be in Calgary to officiate at the Western Branch U16 Challenge being hosted by the WHL.  This tournament involves provincial teams from BC, AB, SK, and MB and runs from October 28 through November 1.  Braeden Taylor (Regina) will be attending as a Referee, and Aidan Penner (Saskatoon) will be attending as a Linesman.  Braeden is currently in his second year Refereeing Midget AAA, and recently started working SJHL hockey as a Linesman.  Aidan is currently officiating the SJHL & PJHL as a Linesman as well as Midget AAA and Bantam AA as a Referee.

From October 30 to November 7, Riley Fitzsimmons (Saskatoon) will be attending the World Under 17 Challenge as a Linesman.  This event is being hosted by Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, BC and will involve the following teams: Canada Black, Canada White, Canada Red, Czech Republic, USA, Finland, Russia, and Sweden.  There will be 26 games played throughout the 8 days of competition.  Riley is currently a Linesman in the WHL, SJHL, and PJHL.  Officials for this event are chosen from Hockey Canada's OPOE pool of officials.  Officials must have attended an OPOE Regional Camp within the past 4 seasons to be eligible for this selection.  The SHA is also proud to have Lyle Wilhelm (Moose Jaw, SK) selected as the Referee-in-Chief for this event.

Beginning on November 3rd and running through November 8th, Referee Adam Bloski (Saskatoon) will be in Moncton, NB at the Hockey Canada Level VI Officiating Seminar.  Twenty Hockey Canada officials will be joined by 3 International delegates from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.  The officials will be put through a written exam, physical and skating testing in addition to being supervised in the two games they will be assigned during the week.  Adam is currently Refereeing at the CIS, WHL, SJHL, and PJHL levels of hockey.  Joining Adam in New Brunswick for this event will be Jason Mercer (Moose Jaw, SK).  Jason will be attending on behalf of the SHA Referee's Division as an Observer.

Last, but certainly not least, two officials will be in Huntsville, ON for the Female Under 18 National Championships.  The provincial Under 18 teams will be competing in 18 games over the course of 5 days.  The SHA is proud to have Referee Cianna Lieffers (Saskatoon) and Linesman Krista Funke (Regina) selected for this event.  Both of these officials are currently working as Linesmen in the SJHL, Female CIS, Female & Male Midget AAA, and the PJHL.  Cianna is also currently working Female CIS and Female & Male Midget AAA as a Referee.  Both officials were also selected to officiate at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC this past February.
