Esso Cup 2017: Saskatchewan Additions
This week, the Esso Cup is underway in Morden, Manitoba and the Prince Albert Northern Bears are representing Saskatchewan in the national tournament.
Along with the Bears, four officials from Saskatchewan were assigned to the national championship. Originally, two referees, were needed from Saskatchewan for the event and those included Alex Blair from Weyburn and Krista Funke from Regina.
In the weeks leading up to the championship, and the day before the officials were to arrive at the championship, two other Saskatchewan officials were needed and added to the official’s roster.
Jen Busby will be working her second Esso Cup in as many years as a linesman. Busby is from Saskatoon. She worked the U18 Female Championship as a linesman this season.
The other addition to the championship was Cianna Lieffers, who is also from Saskatoon. Lieffers will be working her second straight Esso Cup as a referee and is coming off an very strong season that saw her travel to Mexico City to work the Olympic Qualification Preliminary Round 1 Tournament and officiate the gold medal game of the U18 Female Championship in Regina in November.
