Female Program

THIS GROWING AREA OF HOCKEY WITHIN SASKATCHEWAN NEEDS MORE OFFICIALS

The Female Officiating Program in Saskatchewan has continued to grow over the years, and currently there are 268 female officials registered in Saskatchewan. That is up from 237 last season. The SHA’s Referee’s Division is extremely proud of the accomplishments, whether it be locally, provincially, nationally or internationally of our female officials. Referee’s Division will continue to focus on providing opportunities for our female officials and are excited about the future of this program.

Currently, female officials have been working in the Regina Cougars’ Mandi Schwartz Challenge, Notre Dame Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament, Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League, Female SaskFirst Program and several elite male leagues in Saskatchewan.

Back in 2000, all branches of Hockey Canada agreed that all branches would select one person to focus on the recruitment and development of female officials. The SHA’s Female Official Development Coordinator is Barry Schrader.
